Bast claims another Feature, this time at Linda's
Jonestown, PA
– A.J. Bast of Tower City, PA took top honors in the big 25 lap championship event for the popular 600cc Micro Sprints at the Linda's Speedway. The Friday night event was part of a five track Speedweek series. Bast picked up $1000 plus a guaranteed starting spot in the Linda's Speedway 600cc Micro Sprint National Open to take place on October 19-20. 145 cars jammed the Linda's Speedway pits with 63 of the 600's, 30 of the 270's, 30 Slingshots and 22 125cc Sprints. Mike Rutherford of Newmanstown notched his fifth win of the season in the running of the 25 lap feature for the 270cc Sprints as he wins for the second week in a row. Brian Sholley made it two wins in a row also as he dominated the 20 lap feature for the 125cc Sprints. Shawn Light won the 20 lap Slingshot feature to collect his first win of 2007 but what a wild way to win a feature. When Slingshot race leader Marc Daniels was coming down for the white flag his muffler was no longer on the car and as he was headed to the checkered flag he instead saw the black flag with Shawn Light taking the checkered. Slingshot rules state a car will be disqualified when the muffler is disconnected or missing. A tough night for Marc Daniels makes for a good night for Shawn Light.

Tim Dietz, A.J. Bast, Wesley Gordon, Brenden Bright, Mark Shirshekan and Jake Murphy won the six qualifying heat races for the 600's. Those six drivers then drew for their feature race starting positions 1-6. Mark Shirshekan picked the top spot as A.J. Bast picked outside front row. Bast took the top spot on lap one and led all 25 laps to collect the $1000 to prize. Amber Tank Ms MicroRacing 07' was on hand to pose with Bast in the winners circle. Mark Shirshekan finished second with Jake Murphy third, Tim Dietz fourth and Wesley Gordon fifth. Brett Schoenly was sixth with Shane Lewis, Terry Schaeffer, Chad Hough and Ryan Greth completing the top ten. Lex Burritt, Mike Rutherford and David Gravel won the Consolation races. Drivers from Flordia, Missouri, California, Oklahoma, Indiana, West Virginia, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and Delaware were just some of the states represented. The 600cc Micro Sprint Speedweek tour started at Hill Valley Speedway on Sunday July 1 then moved to Path Valley Speedway on Monday July 2 followed by the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Tuesday, July 3. Tonight's race at Linda's served as race #4 while the series will come to an end on Saturday, July 7 at the Clyde Martin Speedway with a big $10,000 to win event. The overall winner of the series will pocket an extra $500.

The 270cc Sprint 25 lap feature saw Rich Shepard hold the top spot the first half of the event but Mike Rutherford who started 10th was on the move. Rutherford uses a lot of race track as he moves through the turns as he keeps the #5k at top speed and he is hooked up like no other. Just as Rutherford was all about to make a pass for the top spot Shepard's car bobbled a bit in turn two and Rutherford was quick to make the pass for the top spot and the win. Rich Shepard did hang on for second with Sean Stolz on hand for the third week in a row and this time he finishes third. Nick Skias finished fourth one spot ahead of his dad Pete Skias who finished fifth. Ross Perchak finished sixth after being involved in two cautions throughout the event. Ed Kenderdine started on the pole of the 24 car field but could do no better than seventh as his terrible bad luck season continues. At least Kenderdine did finish a race and in the top ten so not bad after the year he has had thus far. Dave Williams, Ashley Camilleri and Scott Gingrich rounded out the top ten. Nick Skias, Mike Rutherford and Ross Perchak won the 10 lap heat races with Mike Boyer taking the Consolation. Josh Martin and Greg Spangler were on hand for the first time this season but failed to make it into the feature event.

The 125cc Sprint 20 lap feature was the Brian Sholley show as this youngster gets up front and goes leaving the rest of the field in his dust. Sholley has now won two straight 20 lap feature events. The 125cc Sprints will return on August 3. Finishing behind Sholley was Barry Pollard, Chip Geib, Phil Durham and Mark Yoder. Sholley and Phil Durham won the heat races.

The Tobias Slingshots sponsored by Racers Roundtable radio show saw Paul Lotier Jr lead the first 10 laps before giving way to Chuck Whary. Whary looked to be headed to victory lane but a caution with four laps to go with alter that picture. On the restart Whary held the top spot going into turn four but either his car slowed a bit or Daniels got a great run and the two bumper in turn 4 and all of a sudden Whary was headed to the pits. This put Daniels out front and now it looked like he was a sure winner. As Daniels took the white flag his muffler was no longer on his #357 so when he came around to take the checkered flag it was the Black flag instead as Shawn Light took the checkered. For Light it was his first win of the season and a popular win it was for the hometown crowd as he lives just up the street from the track. Kevin Albert was in a heated battle all 20 laps and ended up second with Earlene Bosga turning in a great drive to finish third. Rob Light the father of the feature winner Shawn finish fourth with Nate Christman fifth. Young Randy Getz continued to improve each week and this time he ends up in the number 6 spot. RJ Smith, Brad Arnold, Gary Hieber and Kyle Hieber rounded out the top ten. TJ Mayberry son on Modified star Tom Mayberry won a heat race as did Randy Getz and Paul Lotier Jr with Gary Hieber taking the Consolation. Joe Malson, Paul Ennes, Bill Clark and Pat Collins were making their first 2007 Linda's starts.

Next Friday, July 13 will again feature the RTS Chassis sponsored 270cc and 600cc Sprints plus the four cylinder Pro-Stocks, Chargers and the Keystone Legends as the Slingshots will have the night off. The night will serve as the annual Adam Dietzel Memorial. Gates open at 5:30 with hot laps at 7:00 and racing at 7:30. Adult general admission remains at just $6 with children age 6-12 only $3.
