BRENT MARKS EARNS 2008 PA 600 SPEEDWEEK CROWN

It was down to the wire, but the 19m of Brent Marks pulled it off in the end and became the Champion of the 2nd Annual 2008 PA 600 Speedweek Series. To win the Championship, a driver needed to make as many A-main events as possible and finish in the top 10 or better to really have a chance. Marks raced his way into Race #1 at Trail-ways and posted a 6th place finish. The following evening in Race #2 at Lincoln Speedway he finished 3rd. Race #3 at Path Valley he finished 7th, Race #4 at Greenwood Valley he finished 8th and Race #5 at Susquehanna he finished 10th. At that point, Marks just need 2 more good nights of racing to clinch his first title. Race #6 was rained out which left Race #7 at Lanco, which proved to be the biggest challenge of all. Fighting his way all night long starting with a heat race, then a qualifier race and then the B-main. In the B-main 9 drivers advanced into the A-main, but Marks found himself in the 14th spot at the crossflags. At that point, Marks was out, but so was 2nd place in points Mike Dicely. Marks later raced in a Provisionals Race and won his way into the A-main by beating Dicely but would get no points in the A-main according to Speedweek rules since he didn't race his way through the evenings standard A-main qualifying races. At this point his only hope was to race to the front and take home the $10,000 prize, but was worried about the 55L of Shane Lewis. If Lewis could win the race from the 7th starting spot he would then take home the Speedweek crown. If he finished 2nd, then there would be a tie. In the A-main by the lap 25 fuel stop, Lewis was up to 3rd while Marks was up to 13th and racing his way up to the front to prevent the win. With 10 laps to go, Shane Lewis had a right rear tire go flat and his night was over and the Championship was set for Marks.

SHANE LEWIS WINS THE TRIPLE X CHASSIS

The Triple X Race Company chassis giveaway was awarded to the lucky driver of #55L Shane Lewis after he was the only driver out of 162 total that qualified for all 7 races. Lewis was surrounded by 3 other drivers who made all the previous races coming into race #7, but when the A-main at Lanco's Super 600 Showdown lined up he was the only one left standing. Shane after the race was happy to accept the award and will drive his new Triple X Chassis in 2009.

ROBERT KENDELL WINS $10,000 AT RACE #7 THE SUPER 600 SHOWDOWN

It was the last race on the Speedweek schedule and we saved the best for last. The pits were packed with 92 cars with super star drivers names on all of them. It was the best of the best from all over the USA and beyond. With some pre-race rains the track was sure to be fast and it was. There were 3 grooves open all night long. You could run the bottom, the middle and the top right up to the fence. As a matter of fact if there is such a thing as grooves in between those three, then you could run there too. We had 9 heat races, 5 last chance qualifiers, 5 A-main qualifiers, and a D, C, and B-mains to form the 24 car 50 lap A-main shootout for $10,000. Also know as the Super 600 Showndown.

With a large payout on the line and a Speedweek Championship not yet clinched, you could tell that everyone was driving a lot harder than usual. Many cars ended there night with broken parts from the extremely tight 1/8th mile racing surface. In the end it was all about the #55 Candy Man Sponsored Red Hyper Chassis driven by 16 year old Robert Kendall from Catonsville, MD. Kendall put on a racing clinic as he took his car to the limits from the 5th starting spot to the lead position and just took off from there. "This car is new this year and its awesome! All I have to say is thanks to everyone and especially my grandfather. There is no way I'd be here without him" said a happy Kendall in victory lane as he held up the $10,000 check.

Second through fifth were Ryan Wilson, Luke Thomas, Scott Sawyer, and Ben Murphy. Sixth through tenth were Brady Bacon, Tyson Hall, Ryan Guyett, Billy Thomas and Eric Bodine.

Mike Dicely won the D-Main, Tim Dietz won the C-Main, and Brady Bacon won the B-Main.

BEN MURPHY CLAIMS RACE #5 AT SUSQUEHANNA SPEEDWAY PARK

Race #5 of 7 is officially in the books. It was another great night of racing and the track conditions were perfect. The rains tried to ruin our night, but just a few sprinkles landed as racing continued on. Another round of 70 cars found their way to the largest speedway of the week, the 4/10 mile oval of Susquehanna Speedway Park. We had 7 heats with 10 per cars per heat and the passing point system was used to see who would advance to the A-main. From there 6 would advance from the C-main into the B-main, and then 6 from the B-main into the A-main.

In the A-main it was all Ben Murphy who started on the pole and never looked back in the high speed 20 lap event claiming the $1,000 Speedweek victory. Following Murphy across the line was Dwayne Gutshall, Ryan Guyett, Tim Gladfelter and Jimmie Brookens completing the top five.

Lastly we had 2 B-mains where 6 from each would advance to the A-main in attempt at the $1,000 prize.

In the A-main Alex Bright took the pole position and raced hard on the front along with Andrew Deal and Jesse Maurer, but it was Mike Dicely who ran the high-line and found his way to the front in the high traffic 35 lap event. Race #3 at Path Valley turned out to be an interesting one. 91 total cars rolled into the pits and with the cars came some clouds filled with some serious rain.
